In the summer, everyone wants a golden, deep tan. Unfortunately, a deep golden tan can be dangerous for your skin. The long-term effects of the sun can damage and even cause skin cancer. Even though you love the appearance of a golden-tanned skin, it is not advisable.
Recent studies show that over one million Americans are diagnosed with skin cancer every year. Four percent of the one million people diagnosed with skin cancer have melanoma. This is the most deadly form of cancer.
By taking a few simple steps, you can protect your skin and prevent skin cancer during the hot summer months.
1. Hats Are Your First Line of Defense from the Sun
Skin cancer is most common on the face and head. Wearing a hat will protect your head and face from the sun’s harmful rays.
Exposure to the sun can cause skin damage, even when it’s cloudy. Wear a hat whenever you are going to be in the sun for a long time.
2. You can now skip the tanning beds and opt for artificial tanning
If you want to look radiant, there are other options than tanning. You can use a sunless tanning or spray-on tan lotion as a safer option. Spray tans and lotions do not expose your skin to harmful UVA or UVB rays.
False claims have been made that tanning beds can eliminate harmful UVA rays. It is not possible to tan and remove all UVA rays.
You can achieve a bronze glow with a sunless tanning lotion that contains DHA. Select bronzers to match your skin tone for the face. (We’re loving Sorme Shimmer Glow in Bronzed.)
3. Don’t Forget Sunscreen
All dermatologists advise using sunscreen daily. Easy-to-apply sunscreens are easy to find. There are many skin creams, lotions, and make-ups that contain SPF. Choose a product that has a minimum of SPF 30.
Select a sunscreen that also works as a moisturiser. Sorme Daily Defense Cream has an SPF of 30 and does double-duty as a lightweight moisturizer.
4. Natural Sunscreen
Skin cancer or light skin may require a higher SPF rating. If you are going to be in the sun for a long time, choose products that are waterproof and sweat-proof.
5. Common Sense is your best defense
Even though you can protect your skin from the sun by using a variety of methods, common sense is still the best way to go. If you notice that your skin is burning, immediately go indoors. Wear clothing that protects your skin from the sun.
While it may not be fun to wear long sleeves in the summer, you should avoid the sun as much as possible to keep your skin protected. Think smartly about protecting your body.
