Well – it finally happened. The moment I’ve been dreading since I had my beautiful little baby boy in September – I am balding. It’s not as dramatic as it sounds, but I can tell that my hair is thinning because of the postpartum hormonal changes. I had to call my hairstylist after pulling out large clumps of hair in the shower.
I began by searching for inspiration on Pinterest and the LAYER. My hair type was the first thing I looked at. I saw beautiful hairstyles that would not work with my thin and fine hair.
Now there is a distinction between fine and thin hair. Fine hair is determined by the diameter of every hair strand. The diameter of fine hair is smaller than that of average hair. However, the hair can be thick or thin. You can have fine, thick hair. Or, in my case I have fine, thin hair.
It is easy for fine hair to break and fall flat. You can overcome this issue by finding a good haircut, using the right products and wearing a flattering look.
Try one of these haircuts to give the appearance of thicker hair on fine hair:
Haircut #1 : Smooth shag
Dianna Agron, Celebrity Inspiration
Dianna Agron is the queen of finding perfect haircuts that flatter her fine hair – she’s found short, medium, and even long haircuts that keep her hair looking healthy and fierce. I love this picture. This shaggy hairstyle frames her face perfectly with its subtle layers and swoopy bobs. She adds volume to her hair by teasing it along the sides and top. You can add sass and volume to your hair by using powdered products.
Haircut #2 – Short hair with heavy bangs
Cameron Diaz: Celebrity Inspiration
Cameron Diaz Styles for Women with Fine Hair
Cameron Diaz looks stunning in this short hairstyle with heavy side bangs. The hair will not fall flat and become weighed down by a short cut. Use a volumizing hair mousse to hold the style all day.
Haircut #3: Keep your hair long and layered with waves!
Carrie Underwood, Celebrity Inspiration
Carrie Underwood styles for women with fine hair
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to have both fine and long hair. Carrie Underwood looks stunning with this long, layered haircut. She creates volume with her beautiful waves.
One final rule to remember: A hairstyle that looks amazing on someone with thicker hair may not work on someone with finer hair. Before committing to a new hairstyle or cut, consider the type of your hair.
